On Tuesday, June 6th, Fasilkom UI held an open session for doctorate conferment to Retno Kusumaningrum. It was held in Fasilkom UI Auditorium with the dissertation titled “Top-Down Hierarchical Latent Dirichlet Allocation” (Sebuah Model Klasifikasi Tutupan Lahan Bertingkat dan Aplikasinya untuk Anotasi Per Piksel).
The research proposes a new annotation process based on land cover classification toward a group of visual document built by three different kinds of layout: fixed grid, spatial pyramid, and overlapping. Based on reliable domain knowledge, which is commonly used in remote imagery sensing, is LCCS (Land Cover Classification System). It was developed by FAO with top-down hierarchical classification approachment. That hierarchical classification is applied on classification model based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). After that, the model will become a Top-Down Hierarchical Latent Dirichlet Allocation (THLDA). The modifications applied in the LDA-based classification model covers the use of integrated visual vocabulary and Gaussian mixture clustering. Meanwhile, the discriminative feature for each base classifier from THLDA model is color moments CIELab. The result of this research shows that the THLDA model works better than the Flat LDA model.
The open session was led by Prof. Drs. T. Basaruddin. Prof. Aniati Murni Arymurthy and Hisar Maruli Manurung, Ph.D. acted as promoter and co-promoter. The acting examiners were Prof. Belawati H. Widjaja, Prof. Heru Suhartanto, Prof.Marimin (from IPB), Mirna Adriani, Ph.D., and M. Ivan Fanany, Ph.D. The dissertation was satisfactory presented. The result was highly distincted, which was 3.93. As the 32nd graduate from Fasilkom UI, a doctorate in Computer Science was conferred to Dr. Retno Kusumaningrum.
