Lately, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is growing fast. Information and Communication Technology is independently present in all over sectors, like education, agricultures, fishiery, marine, health, banking, and so on. In line with the progression, almost all countries have applied the Information and Communication Technology for sectoral advancement, one of them is the education sector. In Indonesia, as an example, a strategic plan of the Republic of Indonesia, Minister of Education and Culture between 2015-2019 (Kemendikbud Indonesia) targets the information technology role in education including escalation of information technology role inside education sector, this means supply of teaching materials, trainings in effective learning methods and education management. Her dissertation titled “Application Information and Communication Technology Model in Schools: An Empirical Study in Indonesia,” Sofiana Nurjanah has formed an application model of information communication technology for the Indonesian schools to optimize and direct its implementation to aim for enhancement in education performances.

The empirical data approach being applied in this research was the survey results collected from 544 schools in Indonesia. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) application process factors were identified to found and decide data collection instruments. The research outcome showed existences of principal components at schools such as ICT facilities; ICT application in school administration function; ICT application in learning process; ICT budget; ICT basic infrastructures; ICT policies; and user capabilities in ICT. The seven principles had been harnessed to form a model which is arranged upon correlations between components that depict the intertwinement of those components.

Her dissertation was presented during the computer science doctoral defense session in the computer science AULA UI on Tuesday, 17 July 2018. The dissertation oral defense session was led by Mirna Adriani, Ph.D. and Prof. Ir. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan MLS., Ph.D. as Promotor. Invites were examiners: Yudho Giri Sucahyo S. Kom., M. Kom., Ph.D.; Dr. Achmad Nizar Hidayanto S.Kom., M.Kom; Dr. Yaya Heryadi; Harry Budi Santoso S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D.; and Betty Purwandari S.Kom., M.Sc., Ph.D. The outcomes of dissertation were well presented resulting a very satisfactory predicate. The 71th doctoral graduate of computer science UI has been titled to Dr. Sofiana Nurjanah.
