On May 6, 2014, an open session for doctorate conferment was held in the Auditorium of Fasilkom UI. Sani M. Isa presented his dissertation which is titled“2D dan 3D Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tree (SPIHT) untuk Kompresi Data Electrocardiogram Multilead”.
The background of this research is the high mortality rate caused by cardiovascular diseases in Indonesia and South-East Asia. The problem becomes worse with the scarcity of cardiologist in Indonesia. A technology named telecardiology has been made to allow cardiologists monitor patient’s health from a distance. By electronically transmitting the patient’s electrocardiography (ECG) signal to the cardiologist, this technology is the solution of the scarce access to the heart health-care service for civilians, particularly those in remote areas. Unfortunately, this technology still lacks in the huge size of ECG signal data, which is 1,55 Giga byte for 24-hours recording, while the diagnosis and monitoring processes usually take more than 24-hours ECG signal recording. Through this dissertation, Sani proposes a design of multilead ECG signal compression method that supports progressive transmission using 2D and 3D Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tree (SPIHT) method. Progressive transmission allows iterative data transfer; the low-quality data will be transmitted earlier, followed by the next data part, to enhance the quality of the previously transmitted data. With progressive transmission, the user that receives data can immediately see the form of the transmitted data without having to wait for the whole data to be finished transmitted.
Dra. Mirna Adriani, Ph.D. led the open session with Prof. Dr. Ir. Aniati Murni Arimurthy, M.Sc. as promoter and Wisnu Jatmiko, Dr.Eng. as co-promoter. The examiner team consisted of Prof. T. Basaruddin, Dr.Eng. Anto Satryo Nugroho, Prof. Dr.dr. Bambang Budi Siswanto, Sp.Jp, M. Fanany, S.Si, M.Kom, Ph,D., and Hisar Maruli Manurung, S.Kom., Ph.D. Perfect result, which is 4,00, granted for Sani and his dissertation. Sani is noticed to be a fast and responsive learner that his dissertation satisfied the whole panel. A Computer Science doctorate was thus conferred for Dr. Sani M. Isa. “I am proud to have a chance to know and cooperate with Sani M. Isa,” said the session promoter, Prof. Dr. Aniati Murni. (SA)
