[INFO – DILAN EPS. 43]
DILAN is back with a great topic 🤩✨
DILAN EPISODE 43 in collaboration with APTIKOM Lecturer Competence Division
YOUR INFORMATION SYSTEMS THEORY IS STUPID (THEY SAY – AND THEY MAY BE RIGHT)
Learning to Build and Judge Theory in IS
Topic Description:
Many IS doctoral students are told that their “theory contribution” is weak, vague, or “not really theory”, but rarely shown how to fix it. This talk uses Shirley Gregor’s taxonomy of theory types and Ron Weber’s framework for evaluating theory quality to unpack what theory in information systems actually is, what different kinds of theory do, and how reviewers silently judge them. Drawing on concrete IS examples, we will explore five common ways doctoral theories go wrong and develop a practical checklist to help participants clarify their theory type, sharpen their constructs and relationships, and design more compelling, testable, and impactful theoretical contributions.
