Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program

The Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program under the auspices of the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Indonesia (Fasilkom UI), consists of Regular and Parallel programs. This program provides an opportunity for the best high school graduates or its equivalent to obtain education and expertise in the field of information systems at the undergraduate level. This program is designed to meet the need for skilled and professional personnel in the field of information systems/information technology. Fasilkom UI Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program has been recognized for its ability and quality in providing education at the undergraduate level in the field of information systems. Graduates are accepted in business and industry circles as high-quality personnel in the field of Information Systems / Information Technology.

The Information Systems Study Program teaches the foundation of science and the application of Information Technology in an organization. In this regard, the curriculum of the Information Systems Study Program is unique because it emphasizes a balance between management and business skills as well as information engineering and information technology. During lectures, students will be equipped with various competencies in this field so that they are able to provide optimal solutions related to Information Systems/Information Technology needed by organizations. The basic courses equip students with the ability to design and write programs, especially geared towards the development of Information Systems on a large scale. In addition, students will also study the components of Information Systems / Information Technology, starting from operating systems, computer networks, databases, and applications. To hone their understanding in the fields of business and management, students study management concepts and various business processes that support organizational activities and the support that Information Technology can provide. In addition to basic courses, the information systems study program also offers specialization courses which are grouped into the following two areas of interest, namely:

Graduate Learning Outcomes

Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL) consist of CPL formulated by the University of Indonesia and CPL of the Information Systems Study Program. The CPL of the Information Systems Study Program consists of the Faculty CPL which is formulated for both Undergraduate Study Programs at Fasilkom and specific CPL for the Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program.

The CPL formulated by UI is regulated in Rector Regulation Number 7/2020 which consists of:

UI1. have the cognitive skills to think critically, logically, creatively, and innovatively, as well as have the intellectual curiosity to solve problems at individual and group levels;

UI2. have sensitivity and concern for environmental and social issues within the framework of Indonesian nationality based on Pancasila;

UI3. able to use information and communication technology wisely;

UI4. able to use spoken and written language in Indonesian and/or English properly for academic and non-academic activities;

UI5. possess non-cognitive skills including social skills such as empathy and conflict resolution, and the ability to be communicative to network, interact, and cooperate with people from different backgrounds, origins, cultures, and perspectives;

UI6. have an entrepreneurial spirit characterized by innovation and independence based on ethics;

UI7. have attitudes and behaviors that reflect spiritual values.

Graduate Learning Outcomes Faculty of Computer Science

The Faculty CPL is formulated for both Undergraduate Study Programs at Fasilkom, so that it becomes part of the Study Program CPL, as follows:

F1. Able to apply critical, systematic, and logical reasoning in analyzing and formulating problems and following scientific rules to obtain computational solutions.

F2. Able to communicate effectively, work together and contribute to teams with various backgrounds in providing solutions that utilize information technology in their professional field.

F3. Able to consistently apply professional ethics by paying attention to legal, security, and social issues in utilizing information technology to solve problems.

F4. Able to adapt in following the development of information technology for professional development in their field on an ongoing basis.

Graduate Learning Outcomes Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program

The CPL for the Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program is as follows:

SI1. Able to identify, plan, design and evaluate solutions based on IS/IT

scientific principles aligned with the needs of the organization.

SI2. Able to select and use the most appropriate techniques and tools (best practice).

Besides that, there is an additional CPL of three choices of study program CPL that can be obtained by

students in a particular specialization, namely:

Field of Interest: IS/IT Solutions

SI3. Able to manage information systems and technology in an organization,

for example server system management, database management, infrastructure management, management

information technology services, information systems audit, and so on. [Field of Interest in IS/IT Governance Solutions]

Field of Interest: E-Business

SI4. Able to manage information systems and information technology on an enterprise scale

support its business processes, for example knowledge management, application integration, e-commerce, business intelligence, and so on.

The information systems study program is designed to produce Bachelor of Computer Science graduates who are professional and able to design Information Systems/Information Technology (IS/IT) solutions to a real organizational problem and are able to work together globally while still prioritizing professional ethics.

In addition to the areas of interest mentioned above, students are also given the flexibility to take several courses held outside the Information Systems Study Program, both inside and outside the UI Faculty of Computer Science. In addition, in the teaching and learning process, various soft skills are also developed, namely the ability to communicate, work in teams (groups), write scientific papers, think creatively and innovatively and have professional ethics. These abilities are integrated into the curriculum of the Information Systems Study Program and built through group assignments, presentations, discussions, practical work in the world of industry or business, and so on.

In the first semester, every student is required to take all the courses that have been determined. Every subsequent semester, the maximum number of Semester Credit Units (SKS) that a student can take is determined by the student’s achievements in the previous semester. Students who have good academic achievement can submit a request to their academic supervisor to be able to attend lectures with a number of credits that exceeds the specified number of credits for each semester. This curriculum is designed to be completed within 8 semesters (4 years).

Length of Study

The Information Systems Undergraduate Study Program at Fasilkom UI includes a learning process equivalent to 144 semester credit units (SKS) that can be completed within four years. Students are entitled to hold a Bachelor of Computer Science (S.Kom.) degree after obtaining a minimum of 144 credits according to the established curriculum requirements.

What is the difference between Computer Science and Information Systems?

Computer Science Study Program Designed to meet the needs of skilled and professional young workers in the field of Information Technology through the utilization of Computer Science, including algorithm design and implementation to develop quality software to update applications based on artificial intelligence, robotics, multimedia information processing , information and network security, and big data processing.

What is the difference between Computer Science and Informatics Engineering?

Computer Science and Informatics Engineering basically refer to the same field of science. Its scope is quite broad, starting from theoretical foundations in the field of computing, namely computational theory, algorithm design, to its application in the fields of artificial intelligence, multimedia information processing, information security, big data processing, and other interesting topics.

A graduate of Computer Science/Informatics Engineering has the ability to design and develop software using the right computational approach to solve a given problem.

With knowledge of Computer Science/Informatics Engineering, a computer scientist (computer scientist) always finds innovations in computational approaches and uses them to solve existing problems.

How many Undergraduate Study Programs are there at the UI Faculty of Computer Science?

What are the pathways for admission or selection to enter the Study Program?

For Regular Program:

  • SBMPTN, namely Joint Selection to Enter State Universities through a written exam.
  • SNMPTN, namely the report card/invitation route.
  • Science Olympiad, namely the report card/invitation pathway where prospective students have won achievements in the Science Olympiad event in the computer field.
  • SIMAK UI (UI Entrance Selection), namely the written examination route.

For Parallel Programs:

Are scholarships available for the accepted Regular students?

Yes, UI provides various kinds of scholarships for Regular Undergraduate students, ranging from reduced admission fees and BOP fees to living expenses scholarships as long as all requirements are met.

Is there an installment system for tuition fees?

Yes, for the Regular Program, by completing all the requirements set by the University of Indonesia.

Is there any relief for students from underprivileged families?

Yes, for the Regular Program, by completing all the requirements set by the University of Indonesia.

How long is the study period for the Undergraduate Study Program?

The Undergraduate Study Program at Fasilkom UI is designed to be completed within 8 semesters. However, students can also complete their studies in a shorter or longer time, depending on academic achievement and the number of credits taken each semester. The maximum time limit for completing the Undergraduate Study Program at UI is 12 semesters.

Does Fasilkom UI accept transfer students from other universities?

Fasilkom UI does not accept transfer students. Every student must take the University of Indonesia entrance exam (SIMAK UI) as a new student. However, courses that have been taken and are equivalent to courses offered at Fasilkom UI can be proposed for transfer. The authority and terms of a course can be transferred or not, must follow the regulations that apply at UI.

Graduates of Fasilkom UI’s Bachelor of Computer Science Study Program are accepted in business and industry circles as high-quality experts in the field of computer science and information technology. The results of the alumni tracking study show that 90% of graduates of the Computer Science Undergraduate Study Program find jobs less than three months after graduation. Graduates of the Bachelor of Information Systems study program have the following profiles:
