Biography

The late Abdul Muthalib was born in Madiun, March 23 1948 and died at the age of 64 years. After completing his Bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Economics in 1972 he worked at Bank of America for one year and because of his interest in the field of computer science, from 1974 – 1979 he worked at the Regional Government of DKI Jaya as an Analyst/Programmer with the task of handling analysis, design and implementation of human resources system.

With the intention of completing his delayed studies, he ventured to meet Dr. Indro S. Suwandi who at that time served as Director of Pusilkom, and the first task he handled as an IT Consultant at Pusilkom UI was analysis, design and implementation of the Ship Billing System for the Tanjung Priok Port Concession Agency (BPP). The tasks he carried out until 1987 at Pusilkom UI included maintaining the application system of State Universities Admission Exams (UMPTN), analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of the management information system, managing the daily activities of a data center.

Returning from his study assignment at Swansea, Wales, UK in 1990, he served as Vice Director for Academic Resources Computer Science Center, University of Indonesia with projects he handled including: managing the information technology infrastructure used by academic and administrative staffs, students of computer science programs, staff of academic and administration bureau of the University of Indonesia ; managing the activities to develop a Campus Network University of Indonesia – Depok (JUITA) ; design and build a technical specification for network infrastructure using fiber optic technology for EXOR1 – PERTAMINA (Balongan – Indramayu), and Reinsurance Services (PT. INDOREI).

As Head of Information Technology Division at PT. Tugu Pratama Indonesia (General Insurance) in 1994-1997, he developed and maintained a Client/Server Technology for Company’s Mission Critical Application using Centura as the front-end and RDBMS as the back-end. It is an integrated application system (Underwriting and Finance). At that time there were three companies (including PT. Tugu Pratama Indonesia) that were already using the system. Continuing until 2000 to help develop and maintain a Client/Server Technology for Company’s Mission Critical Application including hardware, software, and networking at PT. Tugu Mandiri Life Insurance (Life & Health Insurance), in addition to teaching assignments at Fasilkom UI.

After 2000, he spent more time at UI as a teaching staff and helping to become a consultant related to insurance and banking, including: as Executive Advisor at ASKES ; as Audit Advisor at KAP Tasnim Ali Wijanarko & Partners handles IT Audit as part of Financial Audit for PT. Jiwasraya Insurance; Project Manager at Bank Indonesia (Develop core competencies for personnel in Directorate Information Technology Bank Indonesia – DTI-BI); as a management consultant in IT Strategic Planning development as part of Corporate Strategic Planning for the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

When he was Advisor to the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia in 2001-2003, he assisted in the establishment of the Information Systems Technology D3 Program, which is an IT-based Accounting System.

Until his death, both as Director of Pusilkom UI and as a teacher, the fields he was involved in were still in the world of economics and business. This can be seen from the eyes of the courses he taught, including: Computer And Society; Accounting Information System; Introduction to Business ; Principles of Management Courses and projects handled.
