The late Muhammad Rahmat Widyanto received the title of S.Kom. in computer science from the University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia, in 1998, and an M.Eng. and Dr. Eng. in computational intelligence from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Meguro, Japan, in 2003 and 2006. Before returning to his homeland, he was a Research Associate at the Department of Systems Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Applied Information Science, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. The deceased was a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Indonesia.
